Umeda Sky Building

Completed in 1993, the Umeda Sky Building was designed by architect Hiroshi Hara and is part of the larger “City of Air” project, although scaled down from the original plan due to Japan’s economic downturn in the 1980s. The design includes two 40-story towers connected at the top by the observatory. At 170 meters tall, the building stands as a symbol of Osaka’s architectural ambition post-economic bubble. It serves as a tourist attraction and houses offices for major international companies.

Beneath the Umeda Sky Building, a market area evokes the feel of a town from the early Showa Period (1926-1989).
